GREAT TRICKS OF PSYCHOLOGY

Simple and Powerful

Use Language to avoid responsibility.  Incubation solves puzzles and generates creative highs.  Role playing smashes boxes.   Power Pills are useful and a lot of fun.

LANGUAGE

Language often gets in the way of having an open, honest communication with yourself and others.  For instance if you say, “It’s scary” or “It’s sad” change to “I’m scared”, “I‘m sad.”

When you say ”I” instead of “it”, you take responsibility and experience yourself and the world more accurately.

     And change statements that begin with “you” to “I”.  “You scare me” becomes “I’m afraid of you”.  There is a big difference.  You push responsibility onto the other person with “you”.  You take responsibility with “I”.

     And then there is that delightful phrase “I can’t”---change it to “I won’t”.

Try different ways of saying things to yourself and your friends for a week and notice what happens.

INCUBATE

Prime the pump

Your mind is constantly processing, organizing, evaluating, etc. etc, outside conscious awareness.  Use this massive power to solve problems and increase creativity and adventure in your life.

     For instance, when faced with a problem that you have trouble solving---incubate.   Fill your mind with everything you can about the problem.  Maybe jot down a few possible solutions.

     Then stop thinking about the problem---completely.  Maybe for a few hours.  Maybe over night.  Maybe a whole day.  Go dancing, shopping, hiking.  Fornicate up a storm.  Let your mind do the work.

     At the end of the incubation period your mind will flow the answer into your conscious awareness.  Yes, that easy.  And a warm, very satisfying feeling of creativity comes along with the solution.  One of life’s happy highs.

ROLE PLAY

Dance your presentations to the world

You have a huge reservoir of roles encoded within the neurons of your brain.  Just waiting for you to use.  Is there something about yourself you want to change?  No problem.  Decide on an alternative and role play.

     Don’t try role playing a virtuoso pianist, but you can become more loving, joyful, creative, outgoing, strong, etc.  Maybe even smarter.

      When you role play you greatly increase the probabilities that the relevant resources stored within your mind will be activated.  Resources you probably didn’t even know you had.

     Suppose you want to be more outgoing.  Now when you meet someone your mind has a set of high probability behaviors ready to go---a nervous smile--- body a bit stiff---low voice---standard unimaginative greeting, etc.

     You don’t consciously decide to do any of that.  Your mind automatically activates those behaviors when you meet someone.

     If you want to be more outgoing.  Role play!  Your mind has encoded the behaviors of outgoing people.  Now it activates those behaviors---broad smile---forward tilting body---strong voice---creative greeting such as noticing the beautiful belt buckle she is wearing, etc.

     You don’t consciously plan any of that.  When you role play, your mind automatically increases the probability that the behaviors of outgoing people will be activated.  They have been stored in your mind all along, but before you decided to role play they had a low probability of being activated.

     Best of all, running a few role plays shows you are far more than you realize  You have available a vast storehouse of resources gathered over the years of your life.  When you practice role playing you gain easier and easier access to that vast storehouse.

POWER PILLS

Careful!  Don’t get addicted

Put sugar pills, pieces of breakfast cereal, or whatever, into a small box you can carry in purse or pocket.  Choose how your want to change your life and label the box.

Hold the box full of pills:

See yourself flowing with health and vitality out into the world.

Hear yourself talking to others, full of health and vitality.

Feel your mind and body flow with health and vitality

You have just cycled through your primary modalities: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.  Repeat 5 or more times every morning and evening for a week.  That will create a strong association.

I don’t want a bunch of hungry lawyers on my tail, so let me give you the Obligatory Sermon.  Don’t go wild and free when it will get you into trouble.  Be sure and be a nice little boy or girl when required.  You don’t want to lose your job, be sent to jail or the funny farm, or blow your

bank account on wild guys or easy women.

Take a Power Pill as needed.  Your labeling, desire, expectations, vitality, and a little classical conditioning empower them---your mind-body responds.  An effect well known to medicine men, past and present.

Explore.  Experiment.  Have fun.  After a while you will only need to imagine taking a pill.

Fun.  Gave some friends some of the pills I created to make them stronger.  They said they worked great.  Told em it was a big secret where I got them.  Yes I lied, and took advantage, and set them up.  They’re happy, so what’s the problem?

     Made some for myself, “open minded and flexible”.  Haven’t taken any yet.  Maybe they’re addictive.

I labeled the box Wild Woman.  Very strange, it worked.  I didn’t really get wild but I would take a pill and then notice that I changed.  I tried out different ways of being the Wild Woman.  Some I like, some didn’t work so good.  People noticed the changes. 

     Sometime they worked sometimes not.  Need to sort out what I want to become.  Not sure what the alternative is.  Wild Woman is scary and fun.  But a pretty meek wild.  But there is more than that.

     I like to think I’m becoming more me.  Whatever that means.
